Part A
Meet Amani Lomayani, a 19-year-old woman from the village of Elangatadapash who is a true inspiration to all of us. Amani is among 3 rangeland guardians out of 30 Rangeland Guardians who were given the opportunity to participate in a rangeland restoration workshop held at Longido district.
After the training, Amani started implementing what she had learned. She began to fence off approximately 8 hectares of her family's land with the help of her father, using branches of trees (Masanzu). This area was then divided for grazing during both the dry and wet seasons, which allowed Amani's family to graze their four cows without overgrazing the land.
Through Amani’s hard work and dedication, grasses have now grown in the area, although the Solanum species (invasive plant) has started to expand in the area. However, Amani is eager to control the expansion of those invasive plant species with the help of her father.
During a meeting at the village restoration plot, Amani confidently shared what she had accomplished so far after the training and trained other rangeland guardians who didn’t participate on the importance of putting the grazing area on rest. She also discussed potential solutions to the challenges currently facing their rangeland, such as bare ground, invasive plant species infestation, and bush encroachment.
Amani's commitment to restoring her village's rangeland is truly admirable, and her willingness to share her knowledge and expertise learned with others is commendable. Her actions demonstrate that anyone, regardless of their age or gender, can make a difference and help restore the degraded rangeland.

Part B
Amani's tireless efforts in restoring her family's grazing land had begun to bear fruit within four months. The area she had exactly fenced off showed a flourishing growth of Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon), a nutritious grass species that was highly sought after by livestock.
Amani's passion for restoring rangeland and enhancing its productivity drove her to develop a new plan that held the promise of further elevating the success of their restoration efforts in the village plot. Drawing inspiration from her own grazing land's remarkable change, she intended a collective effort with her fellow rangeland guardians to harvest the seeds of Bermuda grass from her grazing land and collaborate in spreading these seeds to the restoration plot, which had no or fewer of this beneficial grass species.
Amani's intention ignited interest among the other rangeland guardians, who recognized the potential of this idea. Not only would this diversify the grass species in the restoration plot, however it also held the promise of future gains as they envisioned a harvest of Bermuda grass that could be sold to support their families.
